Farm Outbuilding Conversion Durham
The project involves the conversion of derelict outbuildings attached to a former farm house to living space extending the accommodation of the main dwelling.
The outbuildings are 19th century sandstone cattle sheds and stables with slate roofs and exposed timber trusses. The design re-uses the existing structure, maintaining the existing barn door openings with glazed infills and dry lining the interior to create an energy efficient shell that sits within the existing fabric. The interior follows the pitched roof form, with the addition of four conservation style rooflights to create a light and airy kitchen, studio and living room space, respecting and preserving the character of the original outbuildings.
Planning approval was achieved in October 2019 and the project is now progressing to technical design stage.
